Runway's App Studio generates custom creative apps from a description, and publishes no cost per run
The October 26 launch is included in every paid Runway plan with no add-on, and the announcement gives no figure for what building, hosting or running an app consumes.
Runway's newest launch does not add a model. App Studio, announced on October 26, lets anyone on a paid plan describe a tool in plain language and get back a working app with its own interface that calls Runway's existing image, video and audio models. The announcement states that App Studio is included in every paid plan with no new purchase or add-on, and gives no figure for what building, hosting or running one of those apps actually consumes.
Runway writes, tests and deploys the app itself
The pitch is that the user never touches code, API keys or hosting. Runway says App Studio writes, tests and deploys every app, and that at launch apps can draw on the company's image, video and audio models along with Brand Kits, Workflows, Assets and References. The practical effect is that a prompt chain which previously lived in one person's head, or in one person's Runway session, becomes an interface with a few input fields that a colleague can run without rebuilding any of the settings behind it.

Build the creative app you wish existed, just by describing it. It generates images, video and audio with Runway’s models and your Brand Kits, ready for you or your whole team. No code required.

Runway shipped a set of built-in apps from its own team alongside the launch, and cites the architecture firm KPF, whose associate principal Andy Christoforou says App Studio "lets us build our own AI tools around the way our teams work." That is a workflow endorsement rather than an output quality claim, which is the right register for a product that is packaging rather than generation.
Admin controls are specified, cost per app is not
On governance the announcement is concrete. Every app follows the same model controls as the rest of the account. Admins can turn App Studio off per workspace and decide whether public links are allowed, every Enterprise app link requires sign-in with an existing Runway account, and admins can see App Studio usage across every app in the workspace.
On economics it is thinner. Inclusion in a paid plan is not the same as free operation, and the launch post does not publish a rate for an app build, an app run, or ongoing hosting, nor does it say whether a published app's spend lands on the publisher or the person clicking the button. Several implementation questions are also left open: whether custom code, webhooks or external APIs can be called from inside an app, and whether an app can be exported or embedded elsewhere.
Packaging makes output provenance a workspace setting
For anyone scoring generated media, the interesting consequence is upstream of the interface. An app freezes a prompt, a model sequence and a set of brand parameters behind a form, so the person producing the clip no longer picks the model, and the file that comes out carries no label saying which one ran. Comparisons between a Runway app's output and a raw model's output are then comparisons between a pipeline and a model, which are different objects. Our own scores for Runway Gen-4.5 measure the model on its own, which is the number an app's output should be read against rather than mistaken for.
App Studio is live on all paid plans now, and Runway's earlier prebuilt apps have moved inside it with no migration required. The feature arrived a day before Runway Ads reached general availability, which puts two distribution-layer launches in the same week from a company that spent most of the year shipping models.
